Cyclists in Graz graded the terms and conditions of cycling traffic
FGM-AMOR has carried out a survey among 300 cyclists, the so called “Bicycle Climate Test”, in Graz in 2007 and 2010. This survey is an instrument to measure how satisfied users are with the bicycle traffic system in their town and was originally developed by the German Cycling Association (ADFC).
The test is especially valuable because it measures the perceptions of the users. And often the choice of a means or transport is based on perceptions rather than on the real situation.
The results of the survey were definitely positive. The cyclists were asked to mark the conditions related to cycling on a scale from 1 - 6.
Especially positive: the fun factor of cycling in Graz has increased from 1.9 to 1.6. This was possibly a consequence of improvements relating to maintenance and winter service of the bike network, where marks climbed from 3.6 to 3.0.
On the other hand bicycle theft was, with 5.3, the most negatively assed topic of the test. This result was closely followed by the assessment that the transport of bicycles in public transport is too expensive (4,8).
